Vysoká škola báňská – Technická univerzita Ostrava (VSB – TUO)

Technical University in Ostrava (University of Mining) is one of the largest universities in the Czech Republic. It provides training in economic and technical specialties.

Technical University in Ostrava trains specialists in the field of industrial and civil construction, labor protection, mechanics, electrical engineering, computer technology, mining and geology, metallurgy, economics.

  • The University was founded on the basis of the Montane Study School, founded by the imperial decree in 1849 in Příbram. In 1945, the University was moved to Ostrava.
  • Due to its focus on the training of mining specialists, the University is a member of the Czech Mining Technique Association.
  • The VSB – TUO Faculty of Economics is ranked as the second one in the Republic after the Faculty of the Prague University of Economics and Business.
  • The University works closely with industrial companies.
  • A large percentage of students at this University receive grants.
  • The University has the largest science and technology center in the Moravian-Silesian Region, which regularly recruits hundreds of graduates.
  • Every year, the University organizes the largest job fair in the Czech Republic, where students can meet with employers, be interviewed and get a job.
  • The University has an excellent material and technical base and highly professional teaching staff.
  • The scientific and laboratory base of the University includes laboratories for nanotechnology, mechanical testing of friction composite materials, and mathematical modeling of the physicochemical properties of polymer materials.
  • The VSB – TUO campus is one of the largest in Central Europe. In addition to educational buildings, there are dormitories, cafes, canteens, sports grounds and clubs, post office, shops, gallery, library, and nightclubs.
  • The University is very popular with foreign students.
  • Education is conducted, in accordance with Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree programs at 7 faculties and 2 university study programs.

The condition for admitting foreign applicants: the provision of a Certificate of Proficiency in the Czech Language at the B2 level (for some specialties, B1 is enough). The selection committee works in two stages.
