Vysoké učení technické v Brně (VUT)

Brno University of Technology is the oldest university in the city. Its history began in 1849, when the German-Czech Technical School was founded.

VUT offers a lot of study programs in technology and natural science, as well as architecture and art. It also has cross-disciplinary programs at the interface of engineering and natural sciences, economics, and healthcare. VUT is included in the list of the best universities in the world (according to QS World University Rankings).

Submission of applications

Applicants for the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Fine Arts are required to submit the applications before November 30. Applications for all other faculties are accepted until March 31st.

Requirements for foreign applicants

The foreigners are required to provide a Certificate of proficiency in the Czech language at B2 level along with the application.

Admission exams

Admission exams for most of programs include written test in chosen major. Admission exams for the programs of the Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts and some programs of the Faculty of Civil Engineering also include creative presentation exam.

Faculty of Architecture (FA)

Bachelor’s degree programs

  • Architecture and Urban Design (program duration – 4 years)

Submission of applications: until November 30 (foreign applicants are required to provide a Certificate of proficiency in Czech at B2 level and Certificate of Recognition of foreign education along with the application)

Admission exams are held in two stages. The first stage is the creative presentation exam, which takes place in January and consists of three assignments: drawing from a model (pencil drawing, 60 minutes) assignment in architecture – interior, exterior, composition (pencil drawing, 120 minutes) spatial drawing (pencil drawing, 30 minutes).

At the second stage the applicants are required to provide results of the learning potential test (OSP exam by Scio).

Master’s degree program

  • Architecture and Urban Design (program duration – 2 years)

Submission of applications: until March 15

Admission exams consist of assessment of a portfolio with academic and non-academic works (A3 format max, 50 pages max) and an interview.

Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication (FEKT)

Bachelor’s degree programs

Admission exam consists of two tests by choice: in mathematics and physics or mathematics and fundamentals of computer science.

Master’s degree programs

Admission exam consists of a written test with 10 tasks on 5 topics according to the corresponding Bachelor’s program.

Admission exams

Admission exam for the Architecture of Building Structures program consists of: creative presentation exam, which consists of three parts: geometric shapes drawing drawing from a model interior sketch on a given topic subject exam, which also consists of three parts: 1) descriptive geometry (3 tasks) 2) mathematics (test) 3) interview

Admission exam for the other programs consists of a written test in mathematics (10 tasks) and physics (10 tasks).

Admission exam consists of: assessment of portfolio in January (25 pieces of work max) creative presentation exam in February. It consists of 4 practical assignments, which the applicant must complete within 2 days. The first assignment is common for all of the programs; the rest depends on the program.

Applicants are also required to pass a written test in art history and culture.

Admission exams are held in September and consist of: a creative presentation exam with assessment of portfolio by the academic board an interview, at which the applicant is required to submit Master’s project (2 pages – theoretical and practical parts). The academic board assesses the theoretical knowledge, creativity and bibliography of the project.
