University of Hradec Králové (UHK) is a young and dynamic public educational institution located in the North East of Bohemia. The university consists of four faculties, the scope of educational programs includes economics and informatics, arts and linguistics, technology and humanities. UHK is one of the universities in Czech Republic offering programs in English as well as in Czech.

- The University of Hradec Králové is ranked 801 in QS World University Rankings by TopUniversities.
- UHK currently has about 6,500 students enrolled with nearly 150 recognized academic programs to choose from.
- Currently, more than 300 foreign students are getting a degree in UHK.
- Studying in Czech is free, but studying in a different language comes at a fee, which is set separately by each faculty, with the possibility of receiving a scholarship.
- By the date of the entrance examination, foreign applicants are obliged to prove the successful passing of the examination in the Czech language of the minimum level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages at an accredited workplace in the Czech Republic.
- The university is located in Hradec Kralove, the 8th biggest city in the Czech Republic, with a population of 93,000. The city is the historical and cultural center of East Bohemia and is about 100 km far from the capital, Prague.
- The University of Hradec Králové’s contemporary campus is within a few steps from the old city center. The campus, in addition to lecture halls and computer rooms, includes a university library, a fine art gallery, scientific labs, and relaxation zones.
International cooperation
Hradec Kralove University functions as a scientific institution, providing opportunities for students to participate in research grants and competitions. University students may receive essential professional and personal experience during study stays abroad as a part of the Erasmus+ program. Currently, UHK students can go to 170 universities, including those in France, Ireland, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom among others.

The admission exam is administered in the form of a written examination. The written exam assesses the candidate’s logical and analytical abilities (particularly the ability to comprehend a text and then analyze and interpret it); and factual knowledge of the social sciences (political science and philosophy fundamentals), modern history, and current events in Czech, European, and global politics.
An interview may be required as part of the admission test for various programs in order to determine the potential student’s motivation and areas of interest.

The admission examination will be conducted in the form of an interview, with the applicant’s prerequisites for study, interest in the area, basic knowledge, and motivation for study being the main topics of discussion. A debate on the subject of the already defended or submitted bachelor’s thesis is also possible. The master’s thesis subject and goals are discussed in the last section.

For programs in English, there is no oral examination, but a written motivational letter and a Master’s thesis proposal are required to be sent with the e-application.

Admissions process: The candidate must demonstrate not just an interest in the area, but also the prerequisites for PhD study and research activity. The entrance interview will also include a three-page presentation of the applicant’s research project, which will comprise the thesis subject, content description, theoretical framework, objectives, processing techniques, and a list of relevant literature on the issue.
Tuition fee for all programs in English is 1500 EUR per semester.
