The University of South Bohemia is a State University located in Ceske Budejovice. The profile of the university is natural, humanitarian and social sciences. The University’s campus is one of the most beautiful in the Czech Republic.

The University of South Bohemia is the best among all young universities in the Czech Republic. Championship of the University of South Bohemia confirms the global ranking of universities by The Times Higher Education (THE) in 2020. In the Young University Rankings, the University of South Bohemia is ranked 201-250 in the world and 1 in the Czech Republic.

The University of South Bohemia in Ceske Budejovice is a modern educational institution, a center of science and research in the South of the Czech Republic. The University of South Bohemia was founded in 1991. The University continued the tradition of training teachers and specialists in various fields of agro-industrial production, theological research, and fish farming developed in Ceske Budejovice.

  • The University has 9,000 students in 220 specialties of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral studies.

  • The University consists of 8 faculties: economic, fisheries and water protection, philosophical, pedagogical, natural history, theological, medical social and agricultural.

  • The University of South Bohemia cooperates with 400 universities around the world. The University supports study and research trips of students abroad.

  • Together with the Johannes Kepler University in Linz (Austria), the University of South Bohemia implements training in the Biological Chemistry specialty. Also, the University of South Bohemia offers students the opportunity to obtain a double degree in cooperation with partner foreign universities.

  • The University of South Bohemia is included in the world rankings of universities, for example, the THE ranking in 2020 put the university in 201-250 place.

  • A significant success of the University of South Bohemia is the opening of the CENAKVA fish farming and water protection center, which is unique on a European scale, and the opening of its own polar research station in Spitsbergen.

  • Graduates of the University of South Bohemia are in demand in the labor market. The unemployment rate among them is no more than 5 %.

Economic faculty

Graduates of the faculty of economics are among the most popular in the labor market, with the lowest unemployment rate – 1.1 %. Graduates work in middle and senior management.

Submission of applications: until April 30. Admission without entrance exams based on the rating of the last 4 years of the school. Foreign applicants must additionally provide a certificate of knowledge of the Czech language at least at the B1 level.

Faculty of philosophy

The faculty of philosophy trains future researchers and secondary school teachers. Bachelor’s specialties:

Pedagogical faculty

The pedagogical faculty is the largest faculty of the University of South Bohemia. It trains future primary and secondary school teachers. The faculty’s work is based on a 60-year tradition of teaching teachers in the South Bohemian region. At the faculty, you can study pedagogy with a specialization in IT, foreign languages, physical culture, ecology or psychology.

Faculty of natural sciences

The faculty is distinguished by modern equipment and high-quality research. The faculty offers biological, chemical, physical, mathematical and IT specialties. You can also get a teaching specialty at the faculty. The faculty has field stations in tropical and polar regions. The faculty works closely with the Biological Center of the Academy of Sciences.

Faculty of fisheries and water conservation

It is one of the most modern educational institutions in the whole of Europe, training specialists in fishing, management and environmental protection in the Czech Republic and Europe. The faculty has experimental equipment for studying aquaculture, hydrobiology, toxicology, fish diseases, reproduction, genetics, and fish breeding.

Theological faculty

The faculty studies biblical sciences, practical theology, philosophy, ethics and church history.

Faculty of medicine and social sciences

It is the second largest faculty of the University of South Bohemia and one of the few in the Czech Republic that specializes in medical and social issues.

  • Protection of the population, with special attention to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear cores and explosives

The faculty of agriculture is the oldest faculty of the University of South Bohemia, while it meets modern European trends in agriculture – it deals with the technological, natural, social, economic and cultural aspects of agriculture.
